Having been living and working in China for 24 years, Mr. Burkardt belongs to the few German lawyers who own a longtime China experience. Starting his career in 1997 as an in-house counsel in the Beijing based office of one of Germanys biggest plant engineering companies, Mr. Burkardt decided to stay in China and co-established the first German Desk in one of the top-Chinese law firms in 1998. He subsequently joined the European Desk of a big US law firm, which was the first foreign law firm in China. After having been appointed as partner of one of larger independent German law firms, he moved from Beijing to Shanghai in 2003 where he established and headed the firm’s Shanghai office. In 2013 Mr. Burkardt – jointly with one of his former Chinese colleagues – established Burkardt & Partner Rechtsanwälte as a PRC licensed law firm providing practical legal advice predominantly to SME’s from Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
